The New Art Practice was a term created for a generation of artists in the former Yugoslavia active in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. These artists shifted their practice to spaces outside the traditional studio, onto city streets, into artist-run spaces, and in multimedia performances and experimental publications. Focusing on artists working in the city of Zagreb, this exhibition documents aspects of this shift and highlights the ability of artists' publications to record these often ephemeral gestures and ideas. While artists such as Goran Trbuljak, Braco Dimitrijević, Sanja Iveković, Mladen Stilinović, and Vlado Martek, among others, worked in a variety of mediums, they shared a common impulse to produce publications. These artists questioned and played with ideas about the place of an artist within this particular political and socioeconomic context. Their work often involved public participation and blurred traditional notions of authorship through collective activities, chance operations, and the appropriation of language and imagery from the state and commercial media. The materials in this installation resonate with other contemporaneous scenes in Eastern and Central Europe and with broader international trends, while also providing an insight into very local networks of experimental artists and writers in Zagreb. All materials are drawn from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art Library.

Musical score written through the transcription of a daily occurrence. The composition was written from the translation –to musical language– of an elevator's movement for ninety minutes. Specific parameters (tempo and tone) were assigned to the passengers' variants (floor and age).
The score is meant to be performed on a cello because of the similarity between this string instrument and the mechanism that makes the elevator work.

Estate Of is the new publication series from Antenne Publishing. Published twice a year in a magazine-like stapled format, each edition is given to a single artist working with photographs as a space to realise projects. Estate Of aims to become a meeting point between an informal physical object, and a substantial body of work from an individual artist.
Kronos by Victor Boullet is the first publication in the Estate Of series.
Victor Boullet’s title refers to the Greek god Kronos, a deity known for its doublesidedness, a concept closely connected to his project The Institute of Social Hypocrisy. The publication Kronos is a means to carry his work forward into a newer form of expression, whilst maintaining a constant sense of dichotomy.

The origin of this work of self-fiction can be found in one of São Trindade’s sketchbooks, this one entirely devoted to the subject of loss or decadence. With references to the aesthetics of crime scenes and nightlife photographed by Weegee in New York in the 1930 and 1940’s, the device is simple: in a "real décor," São Trindade’s body, abandonned and unconscious, is photographed. The body is always the same but differently ‘prepared’ and ‘composed’ with new dresses, new gestures, new signs of a recent activity or a different personality. Each image has its particular story and each space is a sounding board for each of these performative states of body.

Artist Music Journal is an ongoing, limited edition small book series published by Sound Screen Design that focuses on the inseparable connection between music and art. Each release is limited to 1,000 copies, features a 24 page, saddle-stitched small book printed on thick stock and encased in a 10″., record jacket. Edition 09 in the ongoing Artist Music Journals series features the work of the Montreal based artists and musicians Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau, known as Seripop. Known for their original illustration and design work, as well as their longstanding tenure as founders and members of the musical outfit Aids Wolf, Seripop have a broad following around the globe. For their AMJ, Seripop compiled years of original gig poster work, the first collection of its kind for the studio, which has made thousands of prints over the years.
About Seripop: Yannick Desranleau and Chloe Lum are visual artists and musicians who started collaborating in 2002 under the nom de guerre Seripop. Based in Montreal, Seripop has earned international attention for its stylistically distinct, silkscreened street posters. In 2005, Lum and Desranleau began experimenting with sculptural print installations which merge notions of city politics and visual perception. The duo has been speaking and exhibiting their work at various art institutions including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England, Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen, Scotland, and the University of North Texas, Denton, USA. In addition to Seripop, Lum and Desranleau play in AIDS Wolf, a noise-rock band and Hamborghinni, a drums and electronics project.

Brian lives and works in Los Angeles primarily as a graphic designer. He received a BFA in graphic design from CalArts in 2004. Girlcore is an all-female collective based in London. Originally founded on a desire to promote international female talent in creative industries - Girlcore's resume has grown far and beyond anything originally hoped for. Be it showcasing new DJ's alongside the likes of veterans such as Peaches and Annie Mac, to creating a website dedicated to promoting recent flair in the visual arts. All the work done by the group is a labour of love, each member of the collective having their own careers in the creative industries. This side-project is a way of celebrating the amazing work we encounter along the way.

This new edition is a newly conceptualized publication authorized by Gerhard Richter, containing the Atlas work until 2005, including particularly plates of the War Cut cycle. The Atlas is a continuous, encyclopedic work containing c. 4,000 photographs, sketches and collages arranged on more than 700 panels. As a complete work Richter's Atlas is an organism that continues to develop and change. Begun in 1962, many of the ideas preceding Richter's painterly works find their expression in the photographs, sketches, plans and collages of the "Atlas".

This booklet—with a graphic design that resembles a school notebook from the 50s—was created to accompany an exhibition at Larada by Adrien Missika, a young Parisian artist based in Geneva. In 2004, Missika set out on an original “grand tour” that skipped all the monuments and glorious ruins of Europe and took him instead through the peripheral neighborhoods of various Old World capitals, from Milan to Moscow. The result was Einfühlung (2008): a series of low-resolution, cell-phone photos of impressive Collectivist architecture, a legacy of the Modernist social utopias. Images of this work and others, including Grand Prix (2008), a video in which dromology meets archeology, and Daily Archeology (2010), serve as photographic references for the critical text by Patrick Gosatti.

'say cheese', 'please laugh', 'show your smile' - this is what people usually say, when they take a private picture of their friends or family. These pictures normally remain in the private sphere of the photographer and are only shown to a selected audience. For this conceptual and experimental photo-series such private images have been forcefully appropriated: individual prints have been taken randomly from drug stores and photo developers, the pictures where selected and then set in relation to others. The negatives of these images were not taken. Unlike the concept of the objet trouvé, where found objects and materials are the basis for creative work, the images used in this project are objets appropriés, they have been actively taken rather than found. They are documents of other peoples memories, memento mori of their existence, beautiful in their own right. By blurring and distorting them, the concept of remembering and forgetting, documentation and memory is questioned.

Jacob invites us into an intimate space that serves as a shelter for a nomadic subject, the pilgrim. Free of any territorial attachment, this figure sets out on a devotional journey, motivated by the desire to seek the sacred. Thus, the pilgrim wanders into inhospitable lands, submitting himself to absolute isolation. A solitary exodus towards uncertainty, far away from the worldly, from society, and in a way, from the self. This figure of the pilgrim becomes the leitmotiv of Jacob’s work - its isolation, loss of identity, but also, its vitality. Concepts which she also invokes in her intuitive drawings, that are aesthetically close to Art Brut. "The Room of the Pilgrim" explores the liberty and emancipation that arises from this retreat. In that way, the abandoned refuge built by Jacob speaks of lost rights. The rights to anonymity and intimacy being some of the most recently expropriated and commodified values.

"For me press images are an endless source of material with which to work in one way or another. A long time ago, I realised that, almost unconsciously, I was collecting groups of photographs in a folder without a specific theme. Later on, going through them, I noticed that the female figure was a recurrent subject. I selected them because they caught my attention, they talked to me, or they simply attracted my attention. When I understood that there was that link between them, I felt that maybe there were more images of women than men in the media, so I decided to pick up several newspapers and count their photographs. However, the surprise came when I found that it wasn't like that at all."

Following the example of French and British railway companies, C.P. (Portuguese Railways) built houses and social facilities between 1910-20, to support its employees and their families. Key projects implemented during the first quarter of the twentieth century included the Boneca neighbourhood, for retired railway workers, and the Vila Verde neighbourhood, in the alignment of the Bairro Camões neighbourhood. The latter was built in 1926 designed by Cottinelli Telmo and Luís da Cunha. All these neighbourhoods are located in the city of Entroncamento. The city itself was created because of the railways. The station was the first dwelling - at the time a small tent (1862). This new venture provoked major migration from the interior of Portugal, of those who wanted to work for the Company. As a consequence, C.P. (Portuguese Railways) developed a plan, involving a series of ambitious social support structures, perhaps unique at the national level. The company built neighbourhoods for employees, a school, a supplies warehouse, an anti-tuberculosis dispensary that operated as a health centre and also encouraged the development of sporting activities. In parallel with technological evolution and development of railway activities, the workshop area was expanded, included reinforced staff training, which reached a peak when a training centre was built, that is today called FERNAVE, house in a huge building, built from scratch for these functions and which formerly housed the Instituto Superior de Transportes (Higher Transport Institute).

What does it mean to publish today? In the face of a continuously changing media landscape, institutional upheavals and discursive shifts in the legal, artistic and political fields, concepts of ownership, authorship, work, accessibility and publicity are being renegotiated. Every item on the List is a transcript of a part of Kasper Andreasen‘s ongoing work Proofs. Since 2004, he collects sheets of paper: receipts, newspaper articles, packaging, tickets and other written traces which he is confronted with on a daily basis. Twice a year, he chronologically assembles these papers into hard cover books. These sheets compress the time of his daily life and are an attempt to capture lost time.
